GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — A fatal investigation is underway after a man was struck and killed by a fire truck as he stepped into the middle of the road.
WRAL reported that the collision happened around 6 p.m. Thursday.
Officials said a man, who they said may have been drinking, stepped out in the middle of the four-lane road in front of the fire truck. The man, whose name has not been released, was walking home from a bar.
The pedestrian was not in a crosswalk. The rig was returning from a house fire. Officials said the rig was going the speed limit and did not have its emergency lights or sirens on, according to the report.
