Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City next year will begin offering a bachelor’s degree in emergency responder administration.
The four-year program will offer students the skills they will need to coordinate and manage emergency response teams at the scene of an emergency, school spokeswoman Amber Coulter said.
The program is designed for students who plan on pursuing careers as police officers, firefighters and paramedics.
Applications for entry into the program will begin in March. Coulter said the course schedule will be designed to accommodate students with day jobs.
The degree program was approved earlier this month by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, Coulter said. The program is now awaiting accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Universities.
The program will be one of only six bachelor’s programs of its type in the nation, Coulter said. The program includes transfer articulation plans for students attending Rose State College, Redlands Community College and Oklahoma City Community College.
Coulter said OSU-Oklahoma City already has designated faculty and classroom space to accommodate the new program.
She said construction on a new building that will house the program will begin this spring.
