DALLAS, Texas — A Dallas woman was arrested Sunday after police say she drove off in a stolen Dallas Fire and Rescue ambulance.

Latasha Wilson, 34, was arrested on a charge of theft and taken to Dallas County jail.

Police say Wilson got into an ambulance parked at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas on Gaston Avenue and drove away. They got a call about unauthorized use of a motorized vehicle around 5:18 a.m.

No medics, staff or patients were inside the ambulance, Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said.

Police used location-tracking technology to find the ambulance. They stopped it at the intersection of Bonnie View Road and Ledbetter Drive — about 10 miles away from the hospital. They arrested Wilson and took her to jail.

Dallas Fire-Rescue is investigating how Wilson got into the ambulance and emphasizing the importance of security with its staff, Evans said. He said the ambulance was not damaged and its inventory is intact.

Wilson remains in jail. Bond has been set at $5,000, according to jail records.
