The back of the ambulance is becoming a digital hub these days — with ePCRs, monitoring equipment recording patient data and transmission of this information between health care providers.
The digital world has crept into EMS making it more complex and at times frustrating.
So, we posted a question to our EMS1 Facebook wall asking our fans the question, “What would you like to see happen in this area?”
We received a lot of great responses — some Facebook fans wanted more technology and others wanted to go back to the basics. Here’s some of the best selections — be sure to add your own ideas to the member comments section below.
1. “Speech to text narrative. That would save time.” — Brian Cannon
2. “Everything connected. I have an ePCR, I want my V/S and EKG to automatically update and transmit to the ER. Then, they automatically upload to a waiting nurse so they have the data at their fingertips to give them a picture of what was going on PTA.” — Ryan Dussia
3. “The use of tablets with docking stations at all the hospitals we service.” — Greg Gilbert
4. “The idea is great, but in reality it takes away from PT care and interaction. I’d rather use paper.” — Jason Vetack
5. “Wireless monitoring. No more tangles!” — Gary Pearson
6. “A good phone signal and I’d be happy!” — Josh-Tammy Sandvik
7. “Scanners to enter patient demographics and personal information would help a lot!” — Jackie Larsen
8. “Everything integrated into an iPad and one comprehensive software application.” — Tim Allen
9. “I want it to go away! More EMTs and medics are treating the monitor and not the patient.” — Justin Simonis
10. “Mounts for the laptops to get them out of our laps. " — Rodney Flannagan
