HOUSTON, TX – Waubridge Specialty Fabrics, LLC (Waubridge) recently launched the Kovenex® Occupational Safety Blanket at the Industrial Fire, Safety and Security Seminar and Solutions Expo in Houston. The new multiprotection evacuation tool is Waubridge’s first product offering designed specifically for use in industrial workplaces such as plants, foundries, mills and other facilities in which fire-related catastrophes could occur.
The Kovenex Occupational Safety Blanket is made from a patented high-performance flame- and tear-resistant, heat-blocking fabric used to safeguard industrial and manufacturing workers. It is tested to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and far surpasses the performance of treated wool blankets by offering employees much needed protection against fire, intense heat, shattered glass particles and sharp metal edges.
“We are excited to offer industrial workers the Kovenex Occupational Safety Blanket, a potentially life-saving evacuation tool that addresses concerns associated with on-the-job fire dangers,” said Matt Smith, director of business development for Waubridge. “After years of testing the Kovenex material in the fire and rescue industry and experiencing great success, we were compelled to tailor this tool to meet the needs of industrial workers who often face workplace dangers associated with fire and heat.”
According to Smith, there are many qualities that make this tool unique. In addition to the obvious – those Kovenex properties that enable the blanket to block extreme heat and resist flames and tearing – there are several others. One key differentiator is the fact that Kovenex’s performance relies on inherent traits of its patented fiber blends, as opposed to chemical treatments or fiberglass. This makes Kovenex safe for contact with skin and more effective in preventing burns. In addition, the lack of chemical treatment means it has an infinite shelf life, so Kovenex blankets can be washed and reused without compromising performance, unlike most other commercially available fire blankets.
“Initially, our primary focus in the occupational safety market will be on further developing the technology behind the Kovenex Occupational Safety Blanket and building awareness of this life-saving tool,” said Smith. “However, as we progress we are confident that we will identify other industry-related applications that will enable workers to be further safeguarded by Kovenex.”
