Methuen, MA (April, 2015) - Working with a focus group of EMTs and fire rescue personnel, HD Merrimack recently updated their line of Emergency Medical Info Kits (EMI). What differentiates the EMI Kits from all the other medical information kits out there is the front pocket. This front pocket gives you a snapshot of the patient’s information (before ever removing a paper from the pocket) making it quicker and easier to start treating the patient.
The focus group asked and we delivered. We added health conditions and DNR/POLST to the other information on the front of the EMI Kits. The Mini EMI Kit is a single pocket vinyl envelope with a printed front pocket and enough space to hold a Medical Summary Form, Medication List and DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) / (M) POLST form, if appropriate, and attaches to refrigerator. There is also a double pocket EMI Kit and a flash drive that has PDF fill-able and save-able forms. Now on an emergency call, you could look at the refrigerator (or in the glove compartment) and at a glance see the person’s information – name, health conditions, allergies, an emergency contact, or if they have a DNR. Any of this information makes your job easier and saves you time.
Bob B, EMT-P, Cambridge, MA was very happy to see this information on the refrigerator. “Having an emergency contact on the outside of the emergency kit is a great idea. Our patient, who had fallen and broken her hip, was really agitated and refusing to let us touch anything or go to the hospital. The emergency number on the outside of the envelope was her daughter, who immediately gave us a medication list and then was able to calm her mother. Knowing her daughter would meet her at the hospital, the woman became very cooperative. This saved us time and made our job easier. Thank you.”
“I wanted to let you know that the Medical Info Kit has made a difference. We had a patient who fell off a ladder and fractured his leg. As we were planning to give him something for the pain, his wife handed us the EMI envelope. There we saw he was allergic to one of the options we were considering. This changed our course of action. I wish more people had this kit.” Charlie F., EMT, Manchester, NH.
