Fla. first responders receive animal oxygen masks donation

BOCA RATON, Fla. — Firefighters and paramedics are getting a new tool in their arsenal of lifesaving equipment. This time, it’s to help your furry friends.

The Boca Raton Dog Club recently raised more than $10,000 to buy animal oxygen masks for every fire-rescue truck in Palm Beach County. Most of the donations came during the club’s “Nutts for Mutts” festival last month.

Diane Wagner, dog club president, will present the masks to Boca Raton Fire-Rescue Chief Tom Wood on Monday. Firefighters encounter pets that need medical attention mostly in house fires. They would try to fit people-sized oxygen masks to the pet’s smaller face.

The equipment comes in three sizes and is designed to more efficiently supply oxygen.
