LEICESTER, England — An East Midlands Ambulance Service EMT was found dead early Wednesday morning at the station where she worked.
Police discovered Belinda Pope, 39, at the Rutland Ambulance headquarters in Narborough. She was wearing her uniform and police believe she went to the station at night when it was unmanned, Mirror UK reports. Mirror UK reports Pope died by suicide
EMS colleagues transported her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.
EMS Chief Executive Sue Noyes said staff has been offered counseling services.
“It has been very hard for us all at EMAS,” Noyes said.
Pope was in a charge of a rapid-response vehicle for the department. She had just returned from a vacation in Greece. She lived with two children and her husband, Robert.
There were rumors that she was being bullied at work, which Robert Pope denied.
“That is complete balderdash,” he said. “She got great support.” He posted a picture of his wife in a village shop with the words “It is with great sadness that we wish to tell everyone of the passing of Belinda Pope.”
East Midlands Ambulance Service Union representative Lee Goddard said she Pope will be missed.
“Her death has hit everyone quite hard,” he said.
