emsCharts Software Achieves Virginia EMS Data Compliance

Patient data collection products approved for use by VA EMS agencies

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) Office of EMS announced this week that emsCharts, Inc. products have achieved compliance with the Prehospital Patient Data Report (PPDR) standards for electronic patient data collection and submission, and are approved for use by EMS agencies in Virginia.

Data submission approval by VDH was initially awarded to emsCharts in 2003. Late in 2006, however, VDH Office of EMS implemented an updated standard for data submission, which resulted in a new round of testing in 2007. VDH and emsCharts, Inc. spent months fine-tuning the data submission and on February 14 VDH provided approval notification to emsCharts, Inc.

emsCharts has nearly 30 customers in the Commonwealth of Virginia. “We are constantly striving to meet and exceed requirements from EMS and data regulatory agencies across the nation in order to ensure 100% compliance for our customers,” says Pete Goutmann, Vice President of emsCharts, Inc. “Our customers rely on us to keep them in compliance and they should expect nothing less.” Virginia requires EMS agencies to collect data on the incidence and severity of injury and illness to improve prehospital and hospital emergency medical services.

emsCharts helped to pioneer real-time and electronic data collection with the use of the Web to connect first responders with hospitals and reporting agencies; thus expediting the entire process and leaving more time to focus on patients’ needs. emsCharts, Inc. also offers mobile, offline versions of their web product.
