In this week’s Inside EMS Quick Clip, co-hosts Chris Cebollero and Kelly Grayson discuss some tips and tricks to get a good blood pressure reading, especially when riding in an ambulance.
Cebollero recommends taking a pulse first before determining where to put the blood pressure cuff, and even listening to the pulse to determine where to putt the cuff.
“The blood pressure doesn’t start with the cuff,” Cebollero said. “The blood pressure starts with the pulse.”
Cebollero also encourages EMS providers to listen before they look.
“Don’t allow yourself to get caught up in the bouncing of the needle,” he said. “Actually listen for what that blood pressure is.”
