NEW YORK — Bedford-Stuyvesant Volunteer Ambulance Corp EMTs were first to the scene of the double fatality NYPD shooting and made a frantic attempt to revive the officers.
Tatania Alexander and Christopher Womble initiated CPR to save the police officers while rushing them to a hospital, reported the New York Daily News.
When the EMTs arrived, both wounded officers were still in their patrol car.
“Blood was everywhere,” Alexander said.
After officers pulled Wenjian Liu from the patrol car, Womble began chest compressions. Meanwhile, Alexander went to the driver’s side of the car to attempt to resuscitate Rafael Ramos.
Bedford-Stuyvesant Volunteer Ambulance Corp. transported Ramos to the hospital. Alexander and a police officer continued compressions and bleeding control en-route to the hospital. FDNY EMS was right behind them with Liu.
“I told him [the officer] to do compressions while I seal and stabilize his [Ramos’] wounds,” Alexander said.
Although a pulse came back as Ramos was being brought into the hospital, he died at the ER.
