MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A fire department intern who had just received her CPR certification used her newly-learned skills to save a man’s life.
WREG reported that Memphis Fire Department intern Kaylee Mosley, 18, was on her way home when she happened upon a crash in which a man had driven into a wall.
Mosley and another woman pulled over to help and performed CPR until responders arrived. Mosley had received her CPR certification four days earlier.
“I taught her how to do the compressions, taught her how to count them out and how many to do before I do the breath,” Mosley said. “I had to take deep breaths, remember my training, remember what I was taught and what I needed to do and just do it.”
The man was saved thanks to their efforts, and MFD Lt. Thurman Garrett, who was Mosley’s CPR instructor, said he’s very proud of her actions.
“It was special for me to hear that that young lady stepped up to the plate like that and saved somebody’s life,” he said.
Mosley is headed to college soon, and plans to be a pediatric nurse.
“I kind of got a glimpse into what I might have to be doing. So, I know that I will be able to do it. So, I’m very excited,” she said. “In the moment it was really nerve wracking but, looking back on it, I’m very happy and excited and I’m just happy that I was able to do anything to help.”
