RIO DELL, Calif. — A California Highway Patrol officer who was working the truck scales on U.S. Highway 101 near Rio Dell saved a man’s life Thursday when he discovered the man wasn’t breathing and applied CPR.
The CHP said Officer Dave Anderson was working the scales around 1 p.m. when a pickup truck pulled into the scales and the driver said his passenger was sick.
Anderson checked the passenger, a 70-year-old Redcrest man, and found he was not breathing and had no pulse.
The man’s name was not released.
Anderson applied CPR and oxygen until paramedics arrived.
The paramedics took the man to Redwood Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and is expected to survive.
