NORFOLK, UK — Ambulance bosses in Norfolk and Suffolk say answering more emergency calls with single-person rapid response vehicles will not jeopardise patient safety.
The East of England Ambulance Service says that the additional one-person rapid response vehicles will be in addition to the two-man ambulance crews operating in the region, not instead of.
Rob Lawrence, who is the EEAS chief operating officer (Suffolk), said: “This is about extra and not about replacing. We are looking to increase our rapid response vehicles but not at the cost of our ambulance fleet.”
The Government yesterday defended plans to answer more emergency calls with one-person ambulance crews amid fears that such a move could put patients at risk.
