NEW HEMPSTEAD, NY — Tim McCarty didn’t intend to give a hitchhiker a ride to work with him as he traveled from his Orange County home to his job as a paramedic in Rockland.
But apparently that’s what he did.
Unbeknown to McCarty, a rattlesnake stowed away in the engine compartment of his pickup truck.
The snake slithered down the wheel well of his truck while it was parked at the Spring Hill Ambulance Corps headquarters on Brick Church Road - much to the surprise of landscapers who were mowing the lawn Tuesday morning.
