JONES COUNTY, Miss. — The first responders from 10 Jones County volunteer fire departments have a new tool to use in medical emergencies.
Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan McKenna said, “We’re awarding, through the Mississippi Department of Health, 10 AEDs, Automatic Electronic Defibrillators, to 10 departments for the use by first responders. In the event of a person having a heart attack they will convert the heart back to a regular rhythm, hopefully.”
“Our goal is to provide an AED to every first responder in Jones County through this program,” McKenna said. “The value of the equipment you see here today is $22,900 which includes $3,000 for training on each unit.”
