TYLER, Texas — A Texas medical center will debut its bicycle response team this week.
The East Texas Medical Center EMS bicycle team has 12 paramedics and EMTs, according to News-Journal.
The team had to meet physical fitness standards and strong biking skills and went through training pertaining to bike safety and emergency response.
“More and more EMS providers are adding bicycle medics for events, such as the fair, for faster response times through traffic and crowds,” said Neal Franklin, ETMC EMS general manager.
ETMC will be utilizing the bike squad for more crowded special events like concerts, parades and festivals.
