NY EMT charged with DWI, still on the job

Town official says his hands are tied from acting until courts decide the case

TULLY, N.Y. — A Tully man charged with DWI and resisting arrest last week after crashing through a locked state park gate continues to work as a paid Tully firefighter/EMT, town officials said.

James E. Hobart, 41, of Tully, was charged with driving while intoxicated with a reportable blood alcohol content of 0.17 percent, third-degree criminal trespass, third-degree criminal mischief and resisting arrest after the May 7 incident.

Tully Town Supervisor William Lund said Hobart has returned to work and continues to have a valid driver’s license. Lund said the town’s hands are tied.
