New Cincinnati fire chief prioritizes improving EMS

President of Ohio Fire Chiefs’ Association says Cincinnati is catching up to Cleveland, Columbus in increasing EMS

CINCINNATI — The new Cincinnati fire chief has focused on improving emergency medical services so far in his first year on the job.

The Cincinnati Enquirer says the department is reaching emergency patients in about 5 minutes on average, nearly 2 minutes faster than in recent years. Chief Dick Braun has shuffled personnel and equipment and increased the number of advanced life support ambulances in service. They are better equipped with cardiac equipment, drugs and trained staff.

The president of the Ohio Fire Chiefs’ Association says Cincinnati is catching up to Cleveland and Columbus — Braun’s former department — in increasing emergency medical service. “This is a good step for Cincinnati and I applaud them for doing it,” said the association’s Mike Warner.
