WASHINGTON — The International Association of Emergency Medical Service Chiefs (IAEMSC) today announced its fervent support for the nomination of Chief Richard A. Serino to be confirmed as FEMA Deputy Administrator. IAEMSC will be working with members to communicate this support to the US Senate throughout the confirmation hearing process.
Paul M. Maniscalco, IAEMSC President stated “IAEMSC is pleased that President Obama has nominated an individual with outstanding operational experience and a highly respected leadership record to assume this very important role. Chief Serino is a tremendous leader who brings with him vast operational and leadership experience. Additionally, he has a demonstrated ability to create and sustain collaborative environments which bring together all components of a unified response strategy framework — Police, Fire, EMS, Health and Medical, Public Works as well as private sector entities. These are important assets for all FEMA Administrators to possess. We are at an important crossroad in this nation with respect to enhancing capacity to respond to emergencies and disasters. Concurrently the process of redefining readiness and operational requirements will require a leader with the capabilities that he brings to this position.”
IAEMSC is aggressively supporting this nomination via contact with members of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. We strongly encourage all members of IAEMSC, and EMS at large, to contact the members of the Committee to voice your support for Chief Serino.
