BELLMAWR, N.J. — A former EMT who sued the New Jersey borough he worked for received a $32,500 settlement over claims of being a liability for the department and mentally unfit for duty.
NJ.com reported a supervisor fired Bellmawr EMT Eric Heidrich of his duties in 2011, claiming he did not think Heidrich was mentally fit for duty.
Heidrich began working for Bellmawr in 2009 and worked part-time as an EMT in Deptford Township. After responding to a call in 2010, where he “experienced the pointing of a handgun in his face by an unknown man,” Heidrich was unable to continue working, according to the lawsuit.
Heidrich received workers’ compensation from Deptford while he continued to work in Bellmawr. He was suspended from his position at Bellmawr for receiving benefits from Deptford.
The lawsuit claimed Bellmawr was aware of the Deptford benefits and that the department never provided Heidrich with a medical professional’s opinion for his suspension. He was fired in 2013.
Heidrich agreed to drop the claim against Bellmawr following the payout.
