COCONINO COUNTY, Ariz. — An Arizona state official said aircraft dropped supplies to residents in Coconino, Apache and Navajo counties, in the wake of a major snowstorm.
Eric Neitzel of the Division of Emergency Management told CNN Wednesday the emergency supply drops began after residents on Navajo and Hopi reservations started signaling aircraft.
Among the supplies dropped into areas hit hard by last week’s snowstorm were food, medicine and water.
The supply drops were paired with at least four medical evacuation missions, including the evacuation of individuals desperately in need of dialysis treatments.
Inclement weather in parts of the state has limited road travel by closing some roadways. Neitzel said expected snow showers in the state could potentially hinder additional food drops and medical evacuations.
The Arizona snowstorm, which dumped 54.2 inches on Flagstaff, Ariz., during a seven-day period, prompted U.S. President Barack Obama to declare a state of emergency in the state.
