LONG BEACH, Calif. — After more than a year of discussion, the county’s Emergency Medical Services Agency took a significant step Wednesday toward approving a new paramedic model for the Long Beach Fire Department.
The proposed changes would save money by switching from two paramedics on ambulances to one paramedic on all responding vehicles, including fire trucks.
In an eight-to-one vote, the EMS agency voted Wednesday to work with Long Beach Fire Chief Mike DuRee to make sure the proposed changes adhere to current standards for care before a patient arrives at the hospital.
