HARRISON, Ark. — A volunteer firefighter-EMT is being hailed a hero after rescuing a girl who fell out of the back of a bus.

NBC4i.com reported that a bus was driving down a highway when the back door swung open; Ryan Ciampoli rushed into action. His dash camera caught the incident unfold.

“I saw it happening and it blew my mind, it was like I wasn’t even seeing what I was seeing,” Ciampoli said. “We’re in the middle of a state highway, so I couldn’t leave her just lying there.”

The girl was unconscious at first, but started to wake up when Ciampoli approached her. He picked her up and carried her off the road to check her vitals.

“Then the shock kicked in in her little body and she started kicking and screaming,” Ciampoli said. “‘Where’s my mommy?’ and things like that, stuff like that is really heartbreaking.”

Paramedics arrived on scene five minutes after the incident and transported the girl to the hospital.

The girl has a broken jaw and will need surgery, but is expected to be OK.
