Off-duty medic helps rescue man in crash down hill

He witnessed a driver veer off the road and down an embankment, and sprang into action

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — An off-duty paramedic sprang into action after witnessing a driver veer off the road, down and down a 25-foot embankment into a ravine.

Medic Tim Green was passing by when he saw the crash. Police say a medical condition likely caused the man to swerve off the road with his truck, ABC13 reports.

“When you see that, everything slows down enough and you’re able to process it even though it’s happening in real time,” Green said.

He quickly assessed the scene while another bystander called 911, and when rescue crews arrived they were able to safely pull the driver free.

Green said stopping was just part of being a responder.

“A lot of these guys that are off-duty, they help out all the time and don’t get any recognition,” he said. “So it’s just part of the community. They’re all people that help.”
