WEST ALLIS, Wis. — Paramedics transported a 100-year-old woman to her 80th state fair.

The Journal Sentinel reported that Bell Ambulance paramedics volunteered to transport Catherine Krause, who was determined to make it to the Wisconsin State Fair despite injuring her ankle on her 100th birthday.

“For the last 25 years, I’ve been coming every single day of the fair. I gave up this year because I couldn’t walk and I figured I’d miss my State Fair,” Krause said as she was loaded into the ambulance on a stretcher.

Director of Client Services Scott Mickelsen said giving Krause a ride was a nice change of pace for paramedics.

“It’s nice for our crews,” he said. “Instead of being there for someone’s worst day, we’re here for someone’s best day.”

Krause spent her day at the fair greeting people, posing for pictures and eating fried eggplant.

“To think I could come on the last day of the fair, I can’t tell you how thrilled I am,” she said. “I don’t know why they’re making such a fuss out of a 100-year-old broad.”
