LANGLEY PARK, Md. — A Prince George’s County ambulance crew was assaulted by an intoxicated teenager they were trying help Sunday morning.
WTOP.com reported that Prince George’s County Fire and EMS received a call around 5:30 a.m. for a “sick person.” Family members said they thought the teen had too much to drink.
The crew went into the teen’s bedroom to assess his condition when he grabbed one of the female paramedics by her uniform and punched her. They left the apartment and called for police assistance.
The teen remained combative as police subdued and handcuffed him. Another ambulance crew, with police on board, took the teen to the hospital to be evaluated.
The female paramedic was shaken up but remained on duty, according to the report. It’s unknown if charges will be filed against the teen.
The assault happened weeks after the death of firefighter-paramedic John Ulmschneider, who was shot, along with fellow firefighter Kevin Swain, while checking on the welfare of a man.
“The fire and EMS department is very concerned,” spokesman Mark Brady said. “Our first priority is the safety of all of our members.”
