SAN FRANCISCO — Injured Giants fan Bryan Stow has been transferred out of the medical facility where he was being treated and into a center that is designed to aggressively help him learn how to gain as much independence as possible, according to a Facebook page dedicated to updates on his condition.
The 43-year-old also recently had foot surgery and is learning how to move to and from his chair, dress himself and make his own meals.
According to the page, Our prayers are with Bryan Stow, the family and close friends in February celebrated Stow’s birthday by holding a party for him. But because his short-term memory is impaired, Stow did not remember the party the next day.
The family of a San Francisco Giants fan beaten nearly to death outside Dodger Stadium says he’s been moved to a new rehab facility because he no longer needs constant medical care.
Bryan Stow’s family said in a weekend blog post that the former paramedic was moved Thursday to undergo aggressive therapy to help him become more independent. He now shares an apartment with two other patients, and they have full-time assistance.
The improvements come nearly a year after the attack that left him in a coma.
Stow had been undergoing rehab at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center since October.
The two men accused of beating him are still awaiting trial.
