WASHINGTON — The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is requesting feedback on drafted definitions for four categories of EMS personnel under the National Incident Management System.

The FEMA National Integration Center published proposed definitions for “emergency medical responder” (EMR), “emergency medical technician” (EMT), “emergency medical technician - advanced” (AEMT) and “paramedic” to be used for resource-typing purposes under NIMS.

The agency also published a form allowing comments and feedback on the definitions to be submitted until Oct. 15 at 5 p.m. ET.

“NIMS across the nation is a fundamental part of building our national preparedness. NIMS resource typing definitions define minimum qualifications and capabilities for personnel and their equipment within their assigned teams to manage all threats and hazards, regardless of the incident’s case or size,” FEMA said in a statement.

The drafted definitions and comment submission form can be downloaded from the FEMA website.
