AUSTIN, Texas — Nearly a week after the South by Southwest festival, EMS providers released video of their specialized teams responding to calls.

Austin-Travis County EMS said they responded to over 100 calls during the music portion of the festival. EMS providers navigated their motorcycles through crowded streets and barricades to reach and treat patients during the festival. In total, ATCEMS handled 147 calls, treated 100 patients and made 54 transports, reported FOX7.

“It runs the gamut from chest pain, shortness of breath, falls, assaults, some overdoses,” ATCEMS Commander Kevin Parker said. “It was everything you would see out in the city on a normal day.”

Parker said specialized crews had to work through large crowds to reach patients and provide care as quickly as possible.

“They are very maneuverable, low profile, but also highly visible at the same time, so crowds know to avoid them and to let them through,” Parker said.
