HOUSTON — Owners of an ambulance company were convicted in a health fraud case.

Chron.com reported that Kevin Davies and Melvin Davis were sentenced for conspiracy to commit health care fraud and money laundering; they pleaded guilty in December 2016.

Davies and Davis owned and operated KMD Healthcare Services from their home in a gated community. They admitted to submitting about $6 million in false claims to Medicare, Medicaid and Tricare for ambulance services that weren’t provided, according to the report.

Each will spend more than four years in federal prison; they were also ordered to pay more than $2.3 million in restitution.
