Conn. hospital paramedic saves crash victim in cardiac arrest

EAST HAMPTON, Conn. — A man in his 60’s who crashed into a tree and was found with no pulse was given CPR and taken to the hospital, where he was reported to be conscious and alert, according to the East Hampton Police Department.

Members of the East Hampton Fire Department and the East Hampton Volunteer Ambulance Association responded to the one-car motor vehicle accident in the area of 363 W High St. at about 2:17 p.m. Saturday, police said.

Police said the operator of the involved vehicle struck a utility pole.

A Middlesex Hospital paramedic was in the area and was first on scene and “immediately initiated CPR” when the driver “was found to be unresponsive with no pulse,” police said.

“The operator was transported to Marlborough Medical Center and was reported to be conscious and alert upon last check,” police said Saturday.

The identity of the male is not being released until family members are notified of the accident, police said.
