BRATTLEBORO, Vt. — An EMS service the town plans to use after it finishes cutting ties with its longtime EMS provider, Rescue Inc., is without a state license ahead of its July 1 start date, VtDigger reported Wednesday.

Rescue Inc. has said it will not respond to calls without negotiated compensation beyond June 30.

The Brattleboro Selectboard hired the lower cost, for-profit Golden Cross Ambulance of Claremont, New Hampshire, as part of a potential transition plan for the local fire department to take over EMS work.

The Vermont Department of Health’s Office of Emergency Medical Services is reviewing Golden Cross’ application.
