A ceremony Sept. 23 will honor Tami Stephen, the Madison County paramedic shot in the line of duty July 30.
Stephen is still recovering from the shooting. Investigators say Joseph Boyer Candler Jr., 68, shot her as she tried to help the intoxicated Wolf Laurel resident into his home.
The 2 p.m. ceremony in the town square of Burnsville also will recognize the Madison County EMS, emergency operations center and sheriff`s department, along with the Ebbs Chapel Fire Department, the MAMA helicopter crew, Tami`s partner T. Larry Davis, and Darrell Ponder, the man who officers said subdued Candler after the attack.
