ADELAIDE, Australia — A 15-year-old girl is in a serious condition after being hit by a car at Smithfield Plains overnight.

Police say the teenager was at a party on Greenwood Road when she ran away from ambulance officers who were treating her for an unrelated injury.

She was then hit by a car at the intersection of Coventry Road and Sterling Court.

She was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital with serious head injuries and fractures to her legs and pelvis.

Police say she may have been lying on the road when she was struck.

A 28-year-old Smithfield Plains man who was driving the car has been reported after recording a blood alcohol reading twice the legal limit.
