CLOVER, SC — A Clover man is facing charges after deputies say he assaulted a paramedic and charged at a deputy during a medical call.
According to a York County Sheriff’s report, deputies were called to a home along the 2200 block of Forest Music Drive, in Clover, on Saturday evening.
Deputies were met in the driveway by a paramedic who said that he had been assaulted by 37-year-old Stephen Ray Musselman. Emergency crews were at the home after Musselman’s wife said she tackled him while he was in a rage and he began having trouble breathing.
As the deputy got to the top of the stairs to go into the home, he saw Musselman being held back by another man.
That’s when Musselman pushed past the man and charged at the deputy, according to the report, saying “what the [expletive] are you going to do?”
The deputy pulled out his Taser and shot Musselman in the center of the chest, deputies say. Musselman went down on one knee and then got back up and continued to charge the deputy.
He reportedly knocked the Taser out of the deputy’s hand and began to fight with him. That’s when the paramedic and a man inside the home helped restrain Musselman.
Musselman began to have trouble breathing again and was placed on a stretcher to be taken to the hospital. He was given a series of shots to help calm him down.
He reportedly attempted to bite anyone who was close to him.
According to the report, Musselman’s wife called 911 after he had trouble breathing. She says the pair had gotten into an argument Saturday morning. When she returned home later in the day she says she found a bottle of vodka and a bag of pills.
Musselman reportedly became angry, burned his arm after setting a burn barrel on fire, and then went after his tools. She tackled him to “prevent him from doing anything that would harm her, her children or himself.”
