Oregon State Police have closed an investigation into the Sutherlin firefighter and paramedic who committed suicide last month after he was arrested on a sexual abuse charge involving male juveniles.
OSP Sgt. Darin Lux said he decided to close the investigation of Michael Shane Shipley, 35, to protect the alleged victims and save family members and friends further grief.
“Our concern was the feelings for the victims,” he said. “We’re comfortable with the investigation. … At this point we don’t feel the need to disparage him and lay out all the facts.”
