A Janesville ambulance was disabled Tuesday night after hitting a deer on the city’s west side.
Paramedics Mark Johnson and Gregg Sutherland were traveling west on Highway 14 near North River Road at 9:56 p.m. when the ran into the road, said Lt. Jeff DeWitt.
The 12-point buck weighing about 200 pounds hit the left front corner of the ambulance, breaking the radiator.
“It scared the heck out of him,” DeWitt said of Johnson, who was driving.
Johnson pulled the ambulance off the road, and Sutherland called dispatch for another ambulance to take the call.
“There was no delay in response time,” said Tim Ehlers, shift commander.
The ambulance was towed to the city garage where Kurt Dahlman estimated the damage between $5,000 and $7,000.
