KEY PENINSULA, Wash. — A battalion chief responding to a medical aid call was hurt in a crash Monday in Wash.
The battalion chief was driving with lights and sirens activated when another car allegedly ran a stop sign, causing the collision with the fire department SUV, according to the News Tribune.
The battalion chief was the first responder at the call in Key Peninsula, and a medic unit arrived shortly afterward, Assistant Fire Chief Guy Allen said.
But once the ambulance was en route to the hospital, the crew called for another paramedic to deal with the patient’s deteriorating condition.
The battalion chief offered to help with the transport and was on his way to a fire station to meet them when he was hit.
The battalion chief complained of chest injuries and difficulty breathing at the scene, but his injuries were not life-threatening, King 5 News said.
Two civilians were also injured in the accident. All three were transported to the hospital.
