WEST MIDLANDS, England — A motorist died when his car collided with an ambulance on a village road yesterday.
It was on nonemergency duty transporting a woman to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, Shropshire, without blue lights or sirens, West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed.
The vehicles crashed and left the road at Cross Houses, near Shrewsbury, just after 10.50am.
The driver of the Nissan Micra, believed to be in his 50s from the Shrewsbury area, was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor who was passing and stopped to help.
The patient in the ambulance was unhurt but two members of its crew were taken to hospital. The Ambulance Service has launched an investigation and appealed for witnesses.
