CALGARY, Canada — A set of ads targeted towards motorists is aiming to improve roadway safety by educating drivers about how to drive around emergency vehicles.

The public service announcements show an emergency vehicle pictured in a car’s side mirror and urge drivers to “Stay Alert” and “Pull Over” when emergency vehicles approach from behind.

The ads — which are being published in newspapers, magazines and online — also encourage motorists to yield the right of way to emergency vehicles.

The Canada-based John Petropoulos Memorial Fund created the ads in line with its mission to help eliminate preventable workplace fatalities and injuries to emergency services personnel.

The JPMF was established in 2000 in memory of a police officer who died in the line of duty.
