CORAL GABLES, Fla. — A couple in Coral Gables, Fla., were charged with selling information on ambulance patients to personal injury lawyers, prosecutors said.

Ruben Rodriguez, 61, and his wife, Maria Victoria Suarez, 52, allegedly paid an ambulance-company worker to steal information on patients being transported to hospitals in and around Miami, federal prosecutors said.

The worker, who since has been fired by the American Medical Response ambulance company, allegedly sold Rodriguez and Suarez patient information at least four times between December 2006 and April 2009 for payments ranging from $1,000 to $2,000, federal prosecutors said.
