URBANA, Ill. — A Minneapolis woman who drove off in a running ambulance from a suburban Chicago hospital and made her way to Champaign County has been acquitted of possession of a stolen vehicle.
Relying on the report of Champaign psychiatrist Lawrence Jeckel, Judge Heidi Ladd on Wednesday found Samantha Sligar, 28, not guilty by reason of insanity of the Class 1 felony.
Sligar was arrested by Rantoul police on Oct. 10. She was driving an ambulance belonging to the Arlington Heights Fire Department that had been left running outside Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.
