KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A paramedic with the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department sustained a minor abrasion after an alleged struggle with a patient that caused them both to fall out of the back of an ambulance.
Police arrested the 34-year-old patient on Sunday, the Kansas City Star reports.
The ambulance had picked up the patient for difficulty breathing, and was taking him to St. Luke’s Hospital when he tore an IV from his arm, unbuckled his seatbelt, and reached over the paramedic to try to open the door and get out.
The driver stopped the ambulance, and the patient and medic fell onto the pavement, police told the newspaper.
A passing police officer helped restrain the patient, and also found marijuana on him. He was transported to a hospital for an examination.
