Patient killed, 4 EMS providers injured in ambulance rollover

The crash is under investigation, but an inattentive driver may be the cause

MARION COUNTY, W.Va. — A patient died Monday in an ambulance crash that also injured four EMS providers onboard.

Officials say the Marion County Rescue Squad ambulance went over a ditch after the driver of a Jeep didn’t hear the emergency vehicle behind it. The driver of the Jeep attempted to turn and forced the ambulance off the road, wdtv reports.

None of the four in the Jeep were hurt, but all four EMS providers suffered injuries. The patient they were transporting died at the scene.

“MCRS wishes to extend our heartfelt sympathies to all involved, as well as their families,” the agency said in a statement.

An accident investigation is being conducted by the Marion County Sheriff’s Department and the West Virginia State Police.
