SHERMAN TOWNSHIP, Ohio — An area man is fighting for his life at a Cleveland hospital after he fell 25 to 30 feet from a ladder on the side of a silo.
Andrew Bischoff is in critical condition at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, a nursing supervisor said Sunday afternoon.
Huron River Joint Fire District Chief Tom Beck said his department was called at 9 a.m. Saturday for a person falling off a grain silo in the 4500 block of Dogtown Road in Sherman Township.
Ten firefighters on two trucks responded to the scene at 4541 Dogtown Road, Beck said.
“He slipped,” Beck said. “I guess he was climbing a ladder on the outside of the silo. The victim had fallen off from a ladder on the side of the silo from about 25 to 30 feet.”
Bischoff was conscious but in “extreme pain” when firefighters arrived, having sustained “multiple trauma injuries,” the chief said.
Bischoff sustained life-threatening injuries and a medical helicopter was called. However, due to rain and high winds, the call for the helicopter was canceled. Local emergency personnel provided basic life support before Bischoff was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
Beck estimated his crew was on scene about a half hour until the ambulance arrived.
