OSAGE, Iowa — State Rep. Josh Byrnes (R-Osage) put had some EMS training, and he put to use when he helped save a car crash victim on his way to the capital.
He witnesses the accident on Interstate 235, and was able to stabilize the patient, who had major leg trauma, until ambulances arrived, KIMT.com reports. He used a first responder kit he had with him.
Byrnes had some EMS training th rough the St. Ansgar Rescue Unit.
“Wherever you are, if you have a little bit of training you can do some good before the ambulance or paramedics show up,” said St. Ansgar President Lance Kittleson.
Byrnes said he hopes it raises awareness for the need for EMS volunteers.
