HOUSTON — Police say a woman stole an ambulance from the fire department and led them on a low-speed chase ending in downtown Houston.
The Houston Chronicle reported the firefighters were in the living quarters of the station around 11:45 p.m. when one firefighter went outside and noticed the ambulance was missing from the equipment bay.
After police were notified, they were able to track the ambulance through its on board GPS.
Once the ambulance was spotted, the woman refused to stop for the police and led them on a low-speed chase before surrendering.
“She initially told officers she was trying to get away from an abusive boyfriend and this was the best vehicle she could find to get away from him,” said Lt. Larry Crowson, of the Houston Police Department.
No further information was released about the woman or her boyfriend.
