KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A patient was arrested after stealing an ambulance from a Ga. hospital and driving it to his home in Knoxville, Tenn .
Police arrested Kurt Vogler, 55, after he was spotted pulling into his driveway in the stolen ambulance, WBIR reports.
Vogler was in Ga. when he deliberately ran a red light and crashed his car. He later claimed God told to do it.
Police found him with a knife and bag of what is believed to be marijuana in his pocket. While receiving care he stepped outside to smoke a cigarette and stole the ambulance.
Emergency crews had left the vehicle unlocked, with the keys inside, while they picked up a patient[RM1] inside the hospital.
Knoxville police said the vehicle was found undamaged.
Vogler is being charged with first-degree theft, and a commitment order has been filed for him.
