Charges dropped for driver of Va. ambulance in fatal crash

It’s unclear if the patient died from injuries sustained in the ambulance crash after the driver went through a red light with lights and sirens activated

ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. — Charges have been dropped against a volunteer firefighter involved in an ambulance crash that may have killed the patient on board, WMDT reports.

Peter Surran of Bloxom (Va.) Volunteer Fire Department, was initially charged in June with failure to obey a traffic signal after running a red light with lights and sirens activated. He struck a transit bus, which caused the ambulance to overturn several times.

Patient Douglas R. McCready, 60, died at the scene. It’s unclear if he died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, reported WMDT.
